Dear Cultural Competence Advocate:
Rapid population diversification along with a shift in the traditional power structure has created feelings of uncertainty and, at times, fear. This is rooted in a lack of understanding and knowledge about the vibrant cultures that make our state and nation so revered world-wide.
It is critically important to address anxieties through honest, meaningful dialog. At the center of this discussion is cultural competence- building knowledge, awareness, skills and capacity to identify, understand and respect the unique beliefs, values, customs, languages, abilities and traditions of all Ohioans.
We must continue the necessary public discourse without a tone of intolerance and educate ourselves on the rich history of our co-workers, clients, and neighbors. Collaboration despite differences of opinion and lifestyle is a strong point of pride.
MACC asks you to assist us in removing cultural barriers and unifying communities. We must be aware of the power we hold in the evolution of our society. We invite you to join us as a MACC member to gain access to invaluable culture-specific research within the MACC library, discounts on training opportunities, and much more.
